Dr. Raj Sekhar joins our practice after working as an Assistant professor of Anesthesiology and pain medicine at Yale University school of medicine. At Yale, Dr. Sekhar spent most of his time taking care of patients at the Yale spine Center and the Smilow Cancer Center. Dr. Sekhar holds board certifications in Anesthesiology and subspecialty certification in pain medicine from the American Board of Anesthesiology. He brings years of expertise and experience in treating a wide variety of pain conditions including spine related pain, neuropathic pain, chronic regional pain syndromes, musculoskeletal disorders, cancer pain and degenerative joint diseases amongst other chronic pain conditions. Dr. Sekhar uses a comprehensive treatment plan and combines a multidisciplinary approach with collaborations in orthopedic surgery, neurosurgery, chiropractics, neurology, rehabilitation medicine, sports medicine, and acupuncture. He believes in an individualized treatment approach for each of his patients and is committed to working with his patients to achieve a pain-free, improved quality of life. Dr. Sekhar graduated cum laude from Stony Brook University with a bachelor degree in the science of psychology. At Stony Brook University he engaged in multiple research projects dealing with the psychological effects of chronic pain. He spent most of his time at the chronic pain clinics counseling patients and learning from their experience of living with chronic pain. Dr. Sekhar completed his medical training at St. Georges University followed by a general surgery internship and anesthesiology residency at Upstate Medical University in Syracuse, NY. There he was appointed the position of Chief resident. He also completed his pain medicine fellowship in Syracuse where he was able to focus his passion on pain medicine and the treatment of a wide variety of pain conditions.
